The Team Behind the Number

Carrington Plumbing Co is the plumbing and gas team for Carrington, Tighes Hill and Maryville in Newcastle. The work runs from sewer clears and hot water swaps to gas fitting and night-time bursts. At the last census Carrington held 856 dwellings, 61.6 per cent of them separate houses, with Victorian and Federation cottages at the core. Fixed prices come first; the About page explains who we are.

A Suburb Built on Reclaimed Ground

The pipes run through fill lifted from the harbour floor

In the 1860s ships unloaded their ballast onto a tidal flat here until it stood above high water, and after 1887 the port municipality built its cottage streets over it. Parts of the 1880s grid of weatherboard, double-brick and fibro cottages still drain through their original earthenware sewers, and as the fill beneath them settles, joints crack and runs slip out of line.

Digging here means water

Groundwater lies only just below yard level on the flat, so a repair trench can need pumping out before any pipe goes in, and the quote reflects that from the beginning. A sheared clay section gets a camera pass first, then a sectional repair or a reline instead of a blind dig. The Young Street shop strip gets the same standard through our commercial plumbing work.

How Quotes Work Here

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

The price on a Carrington job comes down to four things:

  • Access A cottage with a tight subfloor or a paved yard takes longer to work in than an open one.
  • Pipe material Cutting out a rusted galvanised supply line costs more than fixing newer copper.
  • Parts The unit or fitting chosen, from a replacement cylinder to a section of pipe.
  • After-hours A night or weekend visit costs more than a weekday one.

When we're not the right call: a switchboard fault needs an electrician, and a crumbling retaining wall around a drain is a builder's job, and both get referred on to that trade.

What the Call Looks Like

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 1232 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    The right fix, done cleanly

The work is done with the gear the fault actually needs, and the site is left tidy before we go.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Salt Air, Old Tanks and the Low Streets

Salt and low ground age the plumbing early

Harbour air works on outdoor brass, copper and steel fittings all year, and hot water casings rust through sooner here than inland. Area-level figures count 130 heat pump systems already installed in the suburb, and our heat pump service handles the change from an old tank.

The lowest blocks go under first

A big east coast low arriving with a king tide can leave gullies and meter boxes in the lowest yards under water until it drains away. Leaf-clogged gutters add to it, which is where gutter guards earn their place, keeping the downpipes flowing between storms.

Suburbs We Cover Around Carrington

Common Questions From the Peninsula

Do you cover all of Carrington?

Yes. The whole peninsula sits on one run, from the harbour side to the creek side, and out over the bridge to Tighes Hill, Maryville, Newcastle West and Wickham. One crew covers blocked drains, gas work, hot water units and emergency callouts across all of it.

What will the job cost before work starts?

You approve a fixed price first, and the invoice matches it. Access, pipe material and parts all shift the price, and so does the hour you call. Nothing begins until you say go.

Are you available after hours?

Yes. Nights, weekends and public holidays are all covered, so a burst at 3am or a blocked sewer on a Sunday gets the same crew. Work outside business hours costs more, and the extra is built into the fixed figure you approve.

Can you work on both water and gas?

Yes, our plumbers are licensed gas fitters as well, so a job that touches both, like a gas hot water changeover, is handled by one crew. Gas leaks, appliance installs and pipe work sit alongside the usual water-side plumbing.

Can you find what is wrong with a drain without digging?

The drain camera is pushed through the pipe and shows the fault on screen, whether it is tree roots, a displaced joint or a collapsed section. The footage decides the fix, from jetting to relining, before any shovel comes out.

Which nearby suburbs do you cover?

Tighes Hill, Maryville, Newcastle West and Wickham, all of them sitting the far side of the Throsby Creek bridge. Each has its own page on this site with local pipe and drainage detail, and the same fixed quoting and warranty apply.
