What a Gas Install Covers
Any appliance that runs on natural gas, inside or out:
- Cooktops, built-in ovens and upright cookers
- Space heaters and decorative fireplaces
- Outdoor barbecue connections
- Pool and spa heating
- Gas hot water systems, storage and continuous flow
Every new line gets a pressure test and certification before the appliance is used.
Can an Old Line Carry a New Appliance?
Not always, and the check comes first. The peninsula's pre-1940 cottages were plumbed long before today's appliances existed, and the pipework hidden in the wall is not always sized for them.
- A new cooktop or heater can demand more gas than an old run was built to deliver
- Lines that have sat unused for years need a tightness test before anything is connected
- Where the old run is undersized or badly routed, we quote the upgrade as part of the install
If the existing line passes, the job stays simple. If it does not, you hear that before the old cooker comes out.
Why Do Gas Install Prices Vary?
The install price depends on:
- Run length Since a pipe taken through solid brick to a rear barbecue takes more material and labour than a point behind the existing cooker
- The appliance itself As pool heating calls for a bigger supply and more setting up than swapping one cooktop for another
- Ground conditions Since a trench on this reclaimed flat can hit groundwater, which has to be pumped out first
- Certification Which is included on every job, not an extra
We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

What Customers Say
We had an urgent gas problem that required immediate attention at our home…on a Friday afternoon. … Identified the issue, fixed and tested
When We're Not the Right Call
A new power point or circuit for an oven sits with a licensed electrician, not us. Faults at the meter or the street main go to the distributor. Smelling gas is not an install question at all: go to gas leak detection first.
Gas Install Questions, Answered
Do you install gas cooktops in Carrington's older cottages?
Yes. Weatherboard or double-brick makes no difference to the method. We check the existing line can carry the appliance before anything is disconnected, run a new point if the old one is in the wrong spot, and certify the install when the burners are commissioned.
Can you run a new gas point out to a BBQ area?
Yes. Outdoor points go in copper, lagged against the harbour air, and the whole line gets a pressure test before the BBQ is connected. If the yard is tight or the trench crosses wet ground, that gets priced into the quote rather than added later.
Does the line get tested after the appliance goes in?
Always. Pressure testing happens before the unit is connected and again after commissioning, and the certificate is yours at the end. Gas stays off until both tests pass and the flames burn blue.
What if my appliance also needs an electrical connection?
Some ovens and ignition systems need a power circuit, and that side of the job belongs to a licensed electrician. It gets flagged at quoting stage, an electrician's number is passed on, and we finish the gas side so the two trades are not working over each other.
New gas points, leak repairs and compliance checks are all set out under gas fitting.
