Carrington Gas Fitting Services

The gas work splits into two services, each with its own page. Each is priced up front and warranted the same way as everything else we do.

Gas Appliance Installation

Cooktops, ovens, BBQs, pool heaters and gas hot water units, connected, pressure tested and certified. See gas appliance installation for how an install runs from quote to sign-off.

Gas Leak Detection and Repair

A gas smell is a right-now problem. Gas leak detection sets out what to do first, how a leak is found and how the mended line is proven gas-tight.

What Can a Licensed Gas Fitter Legally Do?

In NSW, gas line work is licensed work. In a cottage that covers:

  • Cooktops, ovens and upright cookers, connected and tested
  • A fixed or bayonet point for a barbecue out the back
  • Pool and spa heater connections
  • Storage and continuous-flow gas hot water, new or swapped over
  • Tracing, repairing and testing gas lines
  • The compliance certificate at the end of each job

Because our plumbers are licensed gas fitters too, swapping an electric tank for gas hot water needs one crew and one price, not two trades. Choosing the system itself is covered on the hot water hub.

When Does a Gas Line Need Attention?

Watch for these on any gas line:

  • A smell like rotten eggs indoors or by an exterior wall
  • A faint hiss by the meter or where a pipe runs
  • Burners that flicker orange rather than holding a steady blue
  • A cooktop burner or space heater that won't stay alight
  • A strip of dead lawn above a buried gas pipe

Smell gas inside and the order is fixed: people out first, no light switches or plugs touched, then the network's emergency number rung from the footpath. When the network crew has finished, we follow the pipework from your meter to each appliance and fix the fault we find.

From Booking to Certification

Every gas job follows the same steps, whether it is a single cooktop or a full line extension.

  1. 01

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 1232 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 02

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 03

    Fitted and proven

The appliance or line goes in, is connected and pressure tested, and the readings go on the certificate.

  4. 04

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

How the Gas Figure Is Built

The number moves with the job:

  • How far the line has to run A point beside the meter is a short job; a line snaking under a cottage floor to the back yard is not.
  • What the appliance needs A pool heater burns gas at a much higher rate than a cooktop, so line size and meter capacity both come into it.
  • Access to the pipe route Tight subfloors and finished surfaces take longer to work through than an open wall or ceiling space.
  • Testing and certification Every job finishes with a pressure test and the compliance paperwork, which sits inside the figure, not added after.

Salt Air, Double Brick and the Cottage Grid

Anything metal on the outside of a house here rusts ahead of schedule

The harbour and the creek wrap the peninsula in salty air, and an unlagged BBQ point or meter bracket corrodes years before its inland twin, so outdoor gas gear gets checked rather than assumed.

The cottage stock sets its own limits

Census figures count 856 dwellings here, and the stock is led by Victorian and Federation cottages and terraces, so the laundries and wall cavities a gas line has to cross were built for a different era. A run through double-brick terrace walls follows what the walls allow.

Gas hot water suits the peninsula well

Compact continuous flow units free up the corner a tank used to occupy, and the corrosion that kills cylinders early here matters less when there is no cylinder. The trade-offs are weighed up on the hot water pages.

What Customers Say About the Gas Work

Urgent gas work is where the fixed figure and the proper certification matter most. One from the review file:

We had an urgent gas problem that required immediate attention at our home…on a Friday afternoon. … Identified the issue, fixed and tested
Lee

When we're not the right call: the meter and the street main are the distributor's, and a fault there is theirs to repair, and we point you to them on the spot. Faulty wiring behind a gas appliance's ignition goes to an electrician. Everything from the meter outlet inward, we take.

Gas Work Questions From the Peninsula

Who can legally install a gas cooktop in Carrington?

Only a licensed gas fitter. Any job that opens a gas line, from a cooktop to a BBQ point, has to be carried out and signed off by one. We handle the install, the pressure test and the compliance paperwork, and you sign off on the figure before we begin.

I can smell gas inside my Carrington home. What now?

Treat it as urgent. Move everyone outdoors, leave every switch and electrical appliance alone, and ring the distributor's emergency line from the footpath. With the supply made safe, ring (02) 4063 1232 and we will trace and repair the fault in your home's pipework.

Can you switch an electric hot water unit to gas in an older cottage?

Yes, when the cottage has a gas connection or can take one. The small pre-1940 laundries on this peninsula can suit a compact continuous flow unit, because there is no tank to house. We check the gas line, the pressure and the space, then price the changeover.

Do you fit gas points for BBQs and pool heaters as well as cooktops?

Yes. We run new gas points and connect outdoor appliances anywhere on the peninsula, with every new line tested under pressure and signed off before the appliance goes into service. Each point sits inside the one fixed figure.
